At a time when most of us are feeling cold, I thought I’d switch things up a bit. Rather than write about the welcome heat of the tropics though, I thought I’d take a closer look at heat that you can eat – hot peppers.
Triphala is a popular Ayurvedic herbal formula that is considered to be the most balanced of all herbal compounds and thus has been the cornerstone of herbal therapies in India over thousands of years. The name Triphala means “three fruits” which makes sense because this formula is comprised of the three Indian fruits Amla (Emblica officinalis), Behada (Terminalia belerica), and Harada (Terminalia chebula).
Many people today are plagued with chronic pain and inflammation. Stress, both physical and emotional, a diet high in sugar and carbohydrates and the resulting nutritional deficiencies, and a constant barrage of surroundings that the body is not equipped to handle on a 24/7 basis can result in high levels of inflammation.
The other day I was walking with a good friend of mine who abruptly declared, obviously out of frustration, “it shouldn’t be so stressful to try to be healthy!” I knew exactly what she meant, as I often feel that same frustration. I suppose it’s because we’re “blessed” with an endless stream of information “… Dr. Oz recommends ….,” “I read a book that said …,” “I saw a commercial that warned of … ” You probably get the picture. Maintaining good health doesn’t need to be stressful. Simply reducing your “toxic load” is a great place to start.
